Several years ago, when I was coaching, a digital expert told me that I should create an online course before the industry gets saturated.
He was right about creating my own online course, which I did resist initially but, later I took his advice.
But he was wrong about the online course industry becoming over-saturated, at least, until now. However, it is well on its way to getting over-crowded with courses that are being offered.
In fact, the statistics are pointing to a significant increase of educational courses in the e-learning industry. It is expected to triple making it a $325 billion industry by 2025, according to Forbes.
Indeed, the competition is growing at a fast pace so, course writers will have to become original in branding their courses in order to stand out from the crowd. Especially, when competing for the attention of more sophisticated students, who now know what they are looking for in a learning experience.
Going back to the advice of the digital expert, I have since created 3 courses and am presently working on my 4th.
This is the new trend. And it’s better to get in on the ground floor rather than compete in an industry that is tripling the volume in less than 5 years from now.
Because in fighting the traffic, you will have to work harder and why work harder than you have to? It’s already hard out there and it’s as if there’s not enough to do all ready, right?!
The Importance of Creating an Online Course
Let’s examine “why” it’s important to create an online course.
1—Creating your online course is an extension of you, your knowledge and expertise.
2—You are the professional or the expert in your field. You deserve the recognition that your title warrants and that’s a fair request for the many years that you’ve spent on acquiring your knowledge and experience.
3—It’s a legacy that can be shared or made known to people who come after you. They are able to access it for their personal use and be able to apply it to real problem solving issues.
4—A course informs on the skills, competency, and knowledge of the experts who share experiences with others. This is important not only for the creator but for the recipients who in turn, use the education and share it with others who may need their knowledge and skills.
5—It draws light to the real worth of you and your company. Courses give consistent attention that’s widely noted and it only adds to the expertise and competency of a leader and a well managed organization.
It becomes an on-going process which never ends but rather transforms in many different unique ways depending on the use and the individuals who apply it to their needs and the needs of others.

The value of your course should stretch far beyond the scope of having words and visual descriptions on paper.
The value in creating your own online course lies within YOU.

Course creation has several benefits. It’s a matter of identifying your specific need.
- Is it a contribution?
